Yorkshire Dales' Three Peaks Project

A new project has been launched aiming to give more protection to the beautiful Three Peaks area of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Ingleborough, Pen-y-ghent and Whernside have attracted walkers for decades - some taking up the gruelling challenge to cover all three within 12 hours!

But all the attention - along with high rainfall and poor drainage - has taken its toll and although much work has been done with new path-engineering and re-vegetating techniques, this area needs more maintenance more frequently than many others in the National Park - and it can be very costly.

The new Three Peaks Project has been created to be a sustainable source of both practical and financial support to help protect and enhance this fantastic area into the future.

The National Park Authority is launching ‘Friends of the Three Peaks' and welcoming those who love the Three Peaks to join them in protecting and enjoying this breathtaking area.

The Authority has also developed an exclusive range of Three Peaks merchandise to celebrate walking one, two or all of the peaks, and to help raise money for the project.

For more information about the project and the benefits of becoming a Friend, please visit the Authority's website www.yorkshiredales.org.uk/threepeaks.
